Blocks and Transactions
What blocks and transactions contain: the two currencies, spend policies, file contracts, attestations and arbitrary data.
Blocks carry transactions, and transactions are how anything on the chain changes: moving siacoins and siafunds, forming and resolving file contracts, and publishing attestations and arbitrary data.
These pages describe each part of a block and a transaction, and the rules each must follow.
- BlocksThe fields that link a block into the chain, and what its ID commits to.
- TransactionsWhat a transaction can contain, and the rule that it cannot create or destroy siacoins or siafunds.
- SiacoinsThe currency of the Sia network: its denominations, what it pays for, and how amounts are represented.
- SiafundsThe secondary asset that earns a share of the 4% tax on every file contract.
- Spend PoliciesThe conditions under which an output can be spent, from a single signature to thresholds and timelocks.
- File ContractsThe storage agreement between a renter and a host: its fields, how it is revised, and the three ways it resolves.
- AttestationsSigned key-value pairs on the chain, which hosts use to announce their network addresses.
- Arbitrary DataThe transaction field for unstructured data, and how it allows soft forks.
